May Outreach

Tomatoes!

At our May meeting we collected 118 cans and jars of tomato products for Heights Interfaith Ministries Food Pantry. Other items such as peanut butter and canned chicken along with $65 cash were also donated. Once again our members demonstrated their generous spirit in supporting our community

Graduation!

Heritage Group and Evening Group members organized a graduation party for a very deserving group of students from Heights High School.

Communities in Schools (CIS) is the largest, most effective dropout prevention organization dedicated to keeping kids in school and helping them succeed. The Club provides ongoing support to CIS in our local schools.

2022 Garage and Bake Sale

The sale raised $5,270 which will be used to support our 2022-2023 community outreach projects.

We are extremely grateful to all who donated, unpacked, priced, setup, loaned display tables, moved furniture, baked, marketed, worked the actual sale, and cleaned up. This is in addition to all the wonderfully generous customers including many of our Heritage and Evening Group members, friends and neighbors. We thank you with absolute sincerity.

January / February Outreach

Kid's Meals

A joyful in-person Heritage Group reunion with Kids' Meals, Inc. was January's featured volunteer activity as members industriously resumed prepping and packing lunches for this worthy organization we genuinely love partnering with.

Valentines

An early Valentine delivery was prepared with love from the Houston Heights Woman's Club Heritage Group to our neighbors at Heights House and The Village of The Heights. Thank-you to Barbara Roberts, Programs VP, for ensuring the behind-the-scenes details and to Amy Amos for organizing our volunteer flow and gift bag labels with panache!

November / December Outreach

Peanut Butter!

Giving Thanks, the November Heritage Group monthly meeting theme, reminded us there is much to be thankful for as members arrived arms-laden with a total 115 peanut butter jars for Heights Interfaith Ministries Food Pantry. We are thankful for our members kind-hearted generosity and to member Cathey Harrison for her thoughtful same-day delivery of all these jars directly to Food Pantry shelves.

Diapers!

In support of the Wesley Center's Early Child Childhood programs, members donated very generously to our Diaper and Baby Wipes Drive in such abundance that we lost count except to declare that well over a thousand diapers and wipes filled an SUV to the roof, barely leaving room for the driver, in addition to supplemental cash donations.

October Community Outreach

CIS Heights Fall Kickoff

Thank you to Heritage Group volunteers Cathey Parker Harrison, Dena Honeycutt, Kathy Sandefer and Kathy Wilson for your roles in supporting the CIS Heights High School Kickoff event on October 14th. More than 30 students attended and were thankful for the meal and party favors.

Communities In Schools of Houston (CIS) exists because students across Houston face a myriad of barriers to success. The HHWC supports CIS year-round through a variety of projects.

Books and Party Bags

The Women's Studies Library Initiative (WSLI) continues the club's tradition of literacy and women's history by ensuring our local public school libraries have a rich collection of books on women's history.

Thank you to Amy Amos, Teresa Matlock, Karen Adams and Barbara Mercer who delivered books and goodie bags to nine Heights area schools on October 21st.

Special thanks to Amy Amos for preparing the “Party in a Bag” goodies for the librarians that accompanied the book delivery.

September Community Outreach

Heights Fun Run

Many thanks to Jan Donaldson, Teresa Matlock, Gloria Wilson and Rebecca Marek for representing the Club at the Houston Heights Fun Run on September 18.

Thank you ladies for helping with race day pick up and managing the waves of runners. The Houston Heights Woman's Club can be counted on to support our community.

School Uniform Drive

Thanks to All!

Great job everyone! We raised $653.57 to contribute to the 2021 Annual School Uniform Drive.

Our donations will be combined with Evening Group to purchase new uniforms. As well, there were many donations of gently used uniforms to outfit those kiddos on their first days of school!

Community Outreach

The Heritage Group participates in a number of hands-on community outreach programs yearly. We also engage in close collaboration with the Houston Heights Woman's Club Evening Group on multiple projects benefitting Heights area public school students and school libraries. Below are some examples.
